Session 2
Unmanned Interoperability Barriers and
Accountability
Realizing emerging interoperability-related
legal and ethical risk management opportunities
The integration of Unmanned Systems is being
accepted throughout the military. Weaponization of these
systems has proven successful in limited cases with full
integration and acceptance still years away. Unmanned Systems
have yet to make a direct major impact in the commercial and
public marketplace but a growing presence is visible with large
potential in the near future.
The advancement of unmanned systems in these marketplaces is no
longer limited by science and technology but by social, ethical,
and legal factors. In this session we will take two approaches
to address these new difficulties and identify opportunities to
advance Unmanned Systems with these new factors in mind.
Unmanned Systems in 2030: This panel will give several views on
the unmanned systems marketplace in 2030 including military,
commercial, and personal use.
Questions for the panel:
What will the Unmanned Systems marketplace look like in 2030?
What challenges beyond technical does the community face in
reaching this vision?
What can be done now to face these coming challenges?
Potential Future Scenarios: This panel will be presented two
potential future scenarios based on the earlier discussed 2030
visions. These scenarios will showcase several challenges for
the long term
acceptance for unmanned vehicles.
Questions for each panel member:
What challenges beyond technical does the community face in this
scenario?
What can be done now to face these coming challenges?
Attendees are encouraged to engage with the panels to help these
difficulties and opportunities come to life. Through debate and
discussion, we as a community will ensure that the social,
ethical,
and legal issues involving Unmanned Systems will be
appropriately addressed and accepted.
